SICK | Phase 2

Creating an irresistible force to gather

Innovation happens when people, technology, and culture are invited to gather in an inspiring space of creativity. At this destination corporate resource center, we heighten user interaction by arranging all learning, working, and creating activities in the orbit of a central interior atrium gathering space.

SICK Sensor Intelligence is an industry-leading sensor technology innovator and producer based in Waldkirch, Germany wishing to expand their capacity and presence in the North American and Global markets. SICK Campus USA, Phase 2 – Office/Customer Resource Center is the second step in the development of SICK’s new technology campus in Bloomington, Minnesota’s South Loop neighborhood. Phase 2 will relocate and expand SICK’s current Bloomington offices, as well as provide product testing and development, product demonstration, and training for customers and staff.

Through Project Visioning Sessions led by Clow Berg, SICK leadership determined that this new facility and the larger campus should be an “irresistible force to gather,” acting as a destination for SICK employees and customers world-wide. The solution to create an iconic environment that fosters the exchange of ideas will also aid in recruitment and entice employees to come back to the office in the post-pandemic era.

Conceptually, a large interior courtyard within a four-story skylit atrium organizes gathering spaces, fosters connection at every level of the building, and infuses these spaces with daylight.

Phase 2 will connect via skyway to SICK’s existing Phase 1 Production / Logistics building (Clow Berg, 2022) and will also prepare for a master-planned Phase 4 office expansion.
