DTLA

Down Town Los Angeles - Hotel

DTLA Alliance is a coalition of property owners in the Downtown Center district of Los Angeles. For over 25 years, the organization has been at the forefront of revitalizing DTLA with its commitment to enhancing the quality of life in the Downtown Center, a now bustling commercial, residential, and cultural hub in the heart of the city which includes Bunker Hill and the Grand Avenue cultural corridor, the Financial District, Jewelry District, and 7th Street Restaurant Row. The DTLA Hotel was first considered to be a boutique hotel, then soon became a unique urban model of Hyatt. The idea was to create a small park or garden next to a large parking structure on street level. Throughout the design, the California Poppy, the state flower, was used as a design metaphor. The design considers a lobby at the second level which also allows other retailers to have street and pedestrian access. The building form begins from a simple rectangular form that deforms and folds to create relief and outdoor terraces.  The design marks the corner intersection as an artful billboard.
