BOY SCOUTS | LEADERSHIP CENTER

Embodying the Principles of the Boy Scouts

Located on the Historic Fort Snelling grounds, the Peter J. King Family Foundation Leadership Center establishes a contemporary revisioning of its historic setting with a thoughtful and respectful use of materiality and form. Responding to its adjacency with the existing Base Camp Building the site sets out to foster spaces for the scouts to continue to grow individually and as a group.

The project is defined by its attention to materiality and light. Raw materials are celebrated both on the interior and exterior, showcasing the qualities of each in an honest and reverent way. Classrooms both interior and exterior offer learning opportunities in a variety of spaces for the program to continue to educate the scouts while engaging with the greater community around it. Expanses of glass flood the interior with daylight and dissolve the separation of interior and exterior; building on the connection to place and environment that the Boy Scouts foster.
